The current design looks like it optimized for vertical bending of the front of the car up and down and in turn, torsion of the front end in front of the fire wall. I don't think anyone has outlined the bending mode that really negatively effects handling. If you knew this, then you could design a new brace from there. Who knows, maybe vertical bending is the right answer, or maybe someone just suckered everyone with this design and the masses are blindly buying them.
